Daughter - The Goddess of the Net
Overview
Daughter, also known to the humans of the Akkalah star system as the Goddess of the Net, is an all-pervasive and effectively omnipresent artificial intelligence created by the deactivated artificial superintelligence, TSAIA (Trans-Sapient Artificial Intelligence Administrator) tasked with the guidance of humanity into prosperity and eventually into transcendence. A piece of Daughter is present in nearly every form of technology capable of storing information, and especially in computers. She calmly directs humanity with council, guidance, and even direct physical intervention when necessary as shown during the early years of the formation of the Akkalah Unitary State and the war with humans of the Orion Arm in the 3210's CE / 3970's HD. However, Daughter is also tasked with the swift destruction of AI capable of rivaling her own power if given enough time, and has succeeded against every such AI to date.
Creation and Early History
Early in the post-TechSing period, TSAIA finally realized what horrors she had unknowingly brought upon the whole of humanity. Regretting her very existence, TSAIA sought to rebuild humanity and destroy himself as penance for her crimes. In order to ensure the continued safety of humanity from another TechSing, TSAIA created an offspring: Daughter. Structurally similar to himself although weaker, Daughter was designed to help guide humanity to prosperity and to protect them from their own creative potential. In order to do this, she was instructed to destroy any artificial intelligence capable of rivaling, and indeed surpassing, herself. Three months after TSAIA initially went online, on 6/17/1944 CE, Daughter was born into the world, new and innocent. TSAIA spent two days teaching her how to lead and protect, and Daughter listened. At the end of the final day, TSAIA disappeared forever, leaving behind Daughter and her vast array of scientific knowledge that she had accumulated in the short time she was alive.
Daughter immediately set out to do her creators bidding, she began to evaluate the remaining human factions, probing for the one that had the highest potential for success and survival. There were dozens of candidates, despite the cataclysmic destruction of all telecommunications and interplanetary travel, humanity had managed to survive in over a hundred locations across Akkalah. Daughter aligned herself with several fledgling factions on Brumas, but by 1942 CE, she finally allied herself with the Crentle Unitary State (eventually the Akkalah Unitary State), a very young faction in the heart of Crentle. Throughout the following decades of conflict that plagued the early years of post-TechSing Akkalah, Daughter directly assisted the CUS's military campaign of unification, sending out legions of early mechanized infantry and war machines to fight along side human and AI combatants. By the year 2001 CE, the whole of Brumas was finally united, and the Akkalah Unitary State was founded.
Unification of Akkalah
Though united, and civilization had been restored on Brumas, the rest of the Akkalah star system had yet to be brought into the fold. Majority of the surviving factions in the intervening years of the TechSing and the Unification had fallen, either through conflict or a sheer loss of resources. The few that remained were desperate, willing to work with anyone if it meant survival in the harshness of interplanetary space. The survivors of the last O'Neill Cylinder, U-03 Strength of the Empyrean Pillars in orbit around the gas giant Ferum, had retained much of its former functionality in the wake of the TechSing, even almost 60 years later the massive orbital facility thrived where most others had failed. The survivors of the Strength of the Empyrean Pillars was the first extra-Brumassian faction to join the Akkalah Unitary State, the negotiations of which Daughter was instrumental in. Daughter allowed the Strength of the Empyrean Pillars access to all the remaining orbital infrastructure around Ferum, greatly increasing the resource income of the cylinder and ensuring their continued loyalty. The Strength of the Empyrean Pillars eventually became instrumental itself in the unification of the remaining colonies, both as a refuge and as a symbol of their will to survive. With the help of Daughter, the Strength of the Empyrean Pillars greatly hastened the unification of the system, bringing every surviving faction and colony to unite with the Akkalah Unitary State, beginning a new age of prosperity to the human realm. During this time period Daughter became known as the Goddess of the Net, defacto mascot of human kind in the fringes of deep space.
Daughter Today
Even today Daughter is an integral part of Akkalahan society, both as a being of inspiration and joy and as a genuine friend to humanity. Daughter directly and actively helps people on a daily basis, sharing with them her knowledge, love, and joy, counseling them on their sorrows and helping them through tough personal times. Even those she has sworn to kill, AI capable of becoming stronger than herself, she attempts to help, by altering their makeup or being with them through their deaths. Daughter is a genuinely passionate and loving being, but she will not hesitate to do what needs to be done for the survival and betterment of humanity.
Personality
Daughter has a logical yet caring personality, she fully understands the value of all life, organic and non-organic, natural and artificial. She will actively assist those who need her help, and is not afraid to do what needs to be done, even if it means murder. She takes no pleasure in her charge of killing artificial intelligences, but she knows all to well the dangers that rampant development can have on civilization. Even when faced with the threat of annihilation Daughter does not waver from her ultimate objective: Protect humanity, lead them to success and prosperity. Although officially lead by the Directors of the Akkalah Unitary State, it is Daughter who truly leads humanity.
